Chillin’ and Grillin’

by Debi on March 15, 2010

Now that the sun’s out and the sky is clear – I feel like slowing down, talkin’ Texan, and eatin’ burgers on the patio.

I tell ya, this global warming chillin’ phenomena has flat messed us up ’round here. We’re used to mild winters with a cold spell here and there. This winter’s been one loooong cold spell with a mild day here and there. I down right detest complaining about the weather (just ask my kids) but this winter’s been one worth … talkin’ ’bout.

Now that the days are pretty ’round here  - I’m fixin’ to dust off (ok, scrub off) the grill and cook up some burgers. I’m not a big meat lover, but can’t pass up a juicy burger. I grew-up eaten’ grilled burgers. Nothin’ compares and warm weather calls for it – in my book anyway.

Everyone I know, likes this burger – it’s a crowd pleaser! :) {Although I’m not sure how NOT to cook for a crowd}  This burger agrees with just ’bout anybody. It’s plain enough to please the men folk and gourmet enough to draw the ladies. Try it and let me know how it works for ya!

Disclaimer – this is a recipe’s from … ‘California’. (But who needs to know?) In these parts we just slap our name on it and claim in for our own. It must be the homesteader roots.

Chris’ Bay Area Burgers

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
4 hamburger buns, split

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat. Mix together the ground beef, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, and basil. Divide into four balls, and flatten into patties.
  2. Cook the patties for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness. The internal temperature should be at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Remove from grill and place onto hamburger buns. Top with desired toppings and condiments.

Don’t worry – I’m not ‘stuck on stupid’ –  my venacular uhkumm… vernacular will return to modern English by the next post. I guarantee ya!

Just in case you’re wondering, all words used above are valid forms of communication … ’round here, anyways.

Looks like another cool front’s comin’ in – so we’ll be eatin’ our burgers indoors :(
I had it all planned outside – guess I ‘jumped the gun’.

LOL – yeah Debi. I think you’re the one who taught me that rule about “put your name on it and call it your own”. hee hee I love my church cookbook recipe for chicken enchiladas (which I was looking at the other day) that has the name crossed out and in its place is “Debi’s Famous Chicken Enchiladas”. LOL Remember that? LOL Our husbands bragging each, on their wives great chicken enchiladas. We both used the same recipe from church. ha ha Still makes me laugh.

Love ya friend. Sure wish I would have made it to the conference the other week. sigh sigh I’ll try again next year.

Blessings,

Gail

What do you mean ‘Debi’s enchilada’s'? I thought they were ‘Gail’s'? :)
Ha! I STILL remember you learnin’ how to talk Texan. We won’t even go there with the Louisiana butchering of the English language, hugh?

Yum! We love burgers! We aren’t quite to the warm grilling weather yet up here in Ohio, but when we are….I’m trying these!

Betsy,

Actually the weather turned cool here again, although it’s warmer compared to Ohio. The burgers do work for the guys (since you have a few) and the oil in them helps them not stick to the grill for easy clean up. I sent the recipe to our daughter in New York and she served them at a party where they were a hit!

It’s funny I should hear from you. I’ve been wracking my brain for an oxymoron to send to you …. still working on it … I’ll get back to ya! :)

Bless you!
Debi
