What Blogging has Taught Me

by Debi on April 22, 2010

This week marks 6 months of blogging for me.  Since my Welcome post, life has taken on a whole new dimension – 31 posts and 251 comments later. Anytime you step out on faith, the one who benefits the most is YOU. Such is true with blogging. I can’t vouch for my readers, but for myself I’ve learned ~
  • First of all – I have a LOT to learn about writing …
  • I actually have an ‘inner geek’- waaay down deep that I’m getting in touch with (don’t laugh, Darcy)
  • I regularly butcher the English language  … I’m a Texan, what can I say?
  • I have endless – I mean ENDLESS corny sayings {cliche’s, movie quotes, songs and other useless sources} that surface to the top of my verbage – subconsciously … the price of being an *audio* learner, I’m sure …
  • I really DO have time to do the things I love!
  • A clean house is overrated :)
  • Comments can ‘make my day’ {did I just say another corny quote?}
  • My spelling still needs improvement – good thing I’ll be teaching it for years to come
  • A good computer is vital to a bloggers emotional health – {thanks for the Mac, honey}
  • The word “unplugged” has personal implications …
  • Anyone can learn to blog - when I started, I honestly did not know what the ‘refresh’ button was (I wondered what that little ‘squigly’ symbol was for) … that’s really sad …
  • I am not alone!! There are countless moms ‘out there’ at home doing the stuff’ and blogging about their lives - I love it!

Half a year of collecting my thoughts, working and reworking them into a draft, nervously pushing the ‘publish’ button, and wondering if anyone is really interested in what I have to say. This ritual has enriched my life in a fresh, new way. It ‘blesses my socks off’ (there I go again) when someone tells me they’re reading! Music to my ears. :)

I’m a ‘homebody’ and I LOVE to stay home. But, with blogging – the world seems smaller and my home seems larger. I have an avenue to record my heart’s desires and favorite things along with random thoughts for my adult kids, their friends and whoever reads.

Through blogging – joys are multiplied, memories revisited and struggles are shared.

Thank you for praying for my husband – the surgery was successful. I’ll continue to have personal updates on Twitter. Because this is HIS story – I won’t tell it on my blog. I’ll only give a glimpse of my side of this journey – to you who read. I want to protect his privacy and give him the honor of walking through this with loving support. Your prayers and words of comfort are a blessing, indeed.

I love your list. Blogging has definitely brought out my inner geek, though I think mine was much closer to the surface! And I love how blogging has helped me to find friends all of the country and even the world.

Ha! Obviously your ‘inner geek’ was within reach. I sure enjoy A Day in the Life and find great ideas for educating there.

Love the list! My honey bought me a Mac recently as well…it really does make a difference :) I’m glad to hear your husband is doing well, will keep praying for continued recovery!

Oh- I was going to email you about Teaching Textbooks but someone let me look at their stuff. Do you use it? Like it? I noticed you had a link so I figured both. We are going to use that for my DD this year {4th grade}

“The world seems smaller and my home seems larger,” what a lovely sentiment. I am new to your blog and found it through sweet shot tuesday. Just having a chance over the weekend to look through all the beautiful pictures, whilst meeting many wonderful new bloggers.
Take care,
Dana

Beautifully said. I was really having trouble figuring out in which part you butcher the English language :)

Well – I try to keep that part in the drafts! Our 15 yr old son helps me edit – he’s great with words and spots my errors. :)

Congrats on your 6 months milestone. I can surely relate to you with many of your points. We are hoping to get a mac in the future, and I really hope that helps me with the blogging, I am so often frustrated with my current computer.

I love your list, it’s exactly how I feel about blogging! It has been a wonderful experience and so much more than I thought it would be!

I love it!! I am learning all those things, too!! I do believe that being a Texan helps us to butcher the English language is a special way. I have not noticed it in your writing, but I have begun to see it in mine…

Blogging is fun!! And getting a comment is like receiving a little present.
