Be Still My Soul

by Debi on April 12, 2010

I’m joining MJ at One Nutty Girl {a blog worth reading} for her Be Still ~ Monday project. It’s Monday and here I am, typing being still and sharing my thoughts, as they’re being formed today, on this elusive topic.

As a Mom, this seems virtually impossible. We all PLAN to stop, right after we:

  • put in one more load of laundry
  • empty the sink of dishes {Fly Lady said so!}
  • once potty training is finished …
  • after the baby comes {that’s a good one}
  • once I get everybody in the car – I’ve GOT to run this errand – it’s urgent!
  • when I catch up on my phone calls; e-mails; tweets … oh, forget it …
  • once the house is fully remolded; painted; decorated :)
  • when the school year ends!
  • Orrrr … while I’m in bed … sick :(

OK- we all get it – I need to ‘redefine’ being still. Is it an ‘inside’ issue or an ‘outside’ problem? As believers, we all have an inner desire to ‘smile at the future’. (Proverbs 31:25) So, what does it take to get there and how do we return if we’ve lost our way?

As women, we’re forever waiting on something. Life remains in transition. Of course, there are practical ways to keep life on an even keel. But, when the engine’s running at full speed – the outward is a natural consequence of the inner heart. Do we NEED to be busy to be important? Are we striving to reach utopia in our home life? Are we trying to drown out our own still small voice? Are we working Superwoman’s plan and it’s devouring us? Or – are we simply going the way of the culture?

I need to meditate on this and return, again and again, to stillness. I plan to do this {on the blog side} each Monday. This topic is dear to my heart and familiar to my soul.

Click the “Be Still” button to the right to enter into the conversation. This is open to bloggers and non bloggers alike. Just women – like us – trying to slow the freight train of life down so we, and our families, can enjoy the ride.

As you read – here’s the song of my heart this Monday. Be Still ~ Kari Jobe

You expressed some of my thoughts, but with much better words than I could have. I am always telling my son I will play right after I do (insert chore/activity). That is not fair to either of us! Thanks for linking up so I could read this.

Ohhh, that is a really good one. After huffing around here all evening, my husband finally asked what the problem was! My answer was there is ‘so much to do’!!! His response was ‘sit down’. I think as women we really struggle with that. For each reason you listed I was nodding, saying ‘yes, yes, yes, yes’ LOL I need to get in on this one…. :)

AMEN. We need to sit and be still at HIS feet…and yet we keep racing around. Thank you for further emphasizing the truth of stillness.

Blessings to you!

How true!! It’s so hard for us moms to stop what we’re doing and be still – even if there is a list a mile long of things that need to be done. :)

Being Still… oh boy, oh boy. This is one area God is really disciplining me… I’m slowly learning to slow down, to be still, and to know that HE is God.

This is so good. It would seem stillness is something God is talking to a lot of people about because I was thinking about this the other day myself. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I look forward to reading more.
