This is how I got ‘hooked’ on blogging.
In my late 40′s when the babies had grown to toddlers and beyond; when the sandman ‘finally’ came to our home every night to minister sleep; and not a creature was stirring all through the house – I found myself … AWAKE.
After the pity party was over, I reluctantly accepted this as a temporary lifestyle. I took the advice of others {like THAT worked} and cleaned the house in the middle of the night. I found this … exhausting. Then, I tried the Christian {and not so Christian} late night TV circuit. I memorized the late night news shows and watched with intensity. {even THAT didn’t put me to sleep!}
THEN, I stopped long enough to ask myself what I would like to do with my *bonus* time in the middle of the night. {novel thought, huh?} As I pondered my own question, I took a long look at the lonely, home computer resting quietly in the dark. I brewed some Sleepytime Tea, {which didn’t work either} settled in with a comfy blanket, and began to Google every GOOD thing I could think of.
In the stillness of the night, amidst the deafening silence, I could hear my own thoughts. I followed them like a child on a scavenger hunt and my questions led me to blog after blog …
I sat amazed, and humbled, to find moms – literally everywhere – displaying their days work and hearts desires. Their deepest prayers, creative ideas and trail of life’s ups and downs decorated the virtual pages and jumped out at the listening, reader.
I was comforted and challenged in the evidence that the family is alive and well.
The ‘at large’ community of wives, mothers and dedicated believers has a resounding voice online. I found myself wanting to join this chorus and jump into the conversation. I wanted to raise my hand and say, “me too”! I wanted to cheer the young moms on and encourage the older ones to not ‘grow weary in well doing’.
While scouring the Internet in the wee hours, I landed on one site again and again and admired her work. In creating this blog I was blessed to work with Darcy @ My 3 Boybarians in taking my idea to fruition.
It was her August {Not}Back-to-School Bloghop that got me hooked! This time last year, I toured countless homeschool rooms with more creative ideas than I could imagine! Inspired by these posts, I found the courage to tackle our own schoolroom. The ideas, from moms I’ll never meet, gave me answers to my decorating and organizing dilemma. And it was so easy!
This years {Not} Back-to-School Bloghop is hosted by Heart of the Matter. Go there and take in the wisdom, energy and ideas of mothers from all over. This August challenge will cover everything from curriculum choices to school pictures. I guarantee you will be inspired! But I must warn you … you might get hooked!
Congrats to Susan - she won the coffee giveaway!! Thanks to all who participated. I’ll offer a new one next week.
I’m joining We are THAT family for Works for Me Wednesday.

I am enjoying this new world also.
I’m so glad that you starting blogging. What a great way to use that time to bless others. Thanks!
I was only hit and miss with blogging until the blog hop last year. I felt so blessed to glean from what others learned on their own homeschool journey. The women that I have “met” in the last year have meant so much to me, as I started this homeschooling journey!
So glad that you couldn’t sleep!!! Happy Birthday!!!

While I don’t homeschool anymore – my first blog came out of that world. I wanted to share what was working and what wasn’t. Thanks for sharing!
