In a house of 11 people, where something’s always cooking and laundry is plentiful - I feel it’s important to have a quiet place. A place to think, observe, practice and work hard. I appreciate having a school room to devote to learning - we’ve not always had the privilege.
Sometimes it’s a wreck of papers, puzzles, artwork and debris. Then there are times when it’s carefully set with notebooks, pencils and it seems like a spirit of unity – is hovering. This room serves as a home library and music room to boot. When school’s in session you’d think our old piano was a ‘player’ – rarely ceasing to rest. (I love it!)
On most days I think of this room as just another spot to dust; another table to dump the laundry on; another room to vacuum … until I stop and remember. In our school rooms through the years our little ones have learned to read, history has come alive, handwriting mastered (or not) and the piano explored and conquered. On the practical side, I have no record of how many mock debates have gone on in this small space nor how many puzzles have been carefully put together by young ones – on the floor. Then, I realize, it’s not just another room. This quiet place has been the training ground for our kids. I keep a framed picture of each graduate (5 now) who have come through the ranks of our unassuming classrooms.
I love this place and have worked hard through the years to make and remake it into a place where leaning is cultivated and hearts are turned to the Lord and to one another.

I love your idea of putting framed pictures of your graduates in your schoolroom. What a sense of accomplishment that would give! It would also be an encouragment to those children still to graduate! Blessings!
