Snowed In

by Debi on January 6, 2011

I’ve been snowed in.

Ok, not literally  {Texas here} I mean figuratively. Although this is not a bad thing – it’s just immobilizing.

I remember real snow days – when we were trapped inside by outside forces. Life as we knew it would come to a screeching halt! Snow days were refreshing, irritating and inspiring all at the same time. Being snowed in, gives you time to dream, work and focus on one thing at a time. With the outside world cut off – you have the opportunity to get to know yourself better. Once the storm passes and the coast is clear  - you seem to emerge stronger and invigorated. Released! Like a captive set free!

The Lord’s had some ‘outside forces’ aka ‘choices’ that seem to have taken 24 + hours of my time each day. Although I embrace these labors of love, I miss the pattern of life. I long for the daily predictability of life. I miss tweeting, blogging and sitting by the fire reading to the boys.

On the other hand, I have months of half-written posts, just waiting to be completed. Like old pieces of furniture, begging for a refinish. Someday  {when I’m more organized} – I’ll publish blog posts during life’s storms. But for now, I plod along, dreaming, planning, purposing in my heart to live above the whirlwind of activity; beyond the clatter of endless details. Meanwhile, I miss blogging. This two-edged sword is God’s tool to cut through the fog in my life and hopefully deliver to you a word, ‘fitly spoken in due season’.

During this season I’ve helped to launch my husband’s devotional blog. He’s written 365 days of devotions for fathers. Danielle at My Life as a Modern Day Wife designed his blog and it’s a huge success! A ‘must read’ for the man in your life, if I say so myself.  Legacy Devotional This was my Christmas gift to Tim. {I love being Santa! No wonder he’s always smiling.}

I’ve also read A Culture of Honor a book on the grace of God. It’s been a great way to end the holidays. I stand amazed!

Over Christmas, I savored your stories of Christmas traditions on the last post. They left me inspired and grateful. I read them over and over. If you haven’t read them, you must. Be forewarned – grab a tissue and a pencil – you’ll want to copy some of these in your own family.

Congrats to Kelly @ Our Debt-Free Homesteading Journey, she won the platter!!

Well, I get my life back next week – and boy do I have some things to tell you. I feel like a kid that’s been playing The Quiet Game for way too long. I may explode! Meanwhile, I’m deeply grateful to have this blog. When life is ‘above and beyond’ what I can imagine – I look forward to the solitude of blogging and reconnecting with my friends, online. I miss you.

I’ll be shoveling out real soon now.

I was all excited about our five inches of snow and the snow pictures that I emailed to you. So, I thought I would check out your post and see if you put up a picture of your snow day. I was speechless when I saw your picture. My head was buzzing until I read your note below. I thought a true northern had blown through your neighborhood and missed our house.

Aren’t snow days great!!! Too bad we don’t get enough of them. I am sure that your boys had a great time playing outside. Have a great week!

I know, ironically – after I wrote this … we got SNOW!! But, not enough to be ‘snowed in’. Literal ‘snow days’ are God’s little vacation breaks for us. Refreshing!

Hi my new friend,
So you must still be working on the mentoring post. In the meanwhile I looked around your blog a bit. You are beautiful and have a gorgeous family. My heart did a little happy dance when I saw that you just read Culture of Honor. Our entire church leadership team is going through this book! I am also excited that Ann Voskamp’s book just came in the mail from Amazon today, and I hope to read it along with the Bloom book club.
I just subscribed to your blog. :)
