Got the ‘Bug’?

by Debi on March 31, 2011

I’ve got the bug and I’ve got it bad!!

Here in Texas, we call an illness – of the random, non life-threatening nature – a ‘bug’. Don’t ask me why. It is what it is.

I’ve got a bug and this one’s from the ‘gotta get it done’ category of diseases. Not the ‘gotta scrub everything in sight‘ type of bug … I’m pretty sure I’m immune to that one. ‘Spring cleaning’ is the technical term!! This version has life-altering eruptions that manifest in an overwhelming desire to get rid of things. It starts with a few things here and there, grows into an urge to toss most things … and on a hard day – EV-ERY-THING!

No worries – I’ve had this bug before. I always recover. Meanwhile, I have this consuming urge to ‘clean-out’ areas of my life – and OUR lives.

Symptoms? I notice the books we no longer need and it bothers me – so I’ve devised a plan to take them to the glue factory half priced bookstore, ASAP. Clothing is also an irritant –  I find myself scheming to rid the dressers of old winter clothes that we I don’t like anymore. (this could be fun) School books taunt me. The ones taking up valuable shelf space that I will NEVER use again. They’re daring me to give ‘em the out. Next week they go to the homeschool book-sale – I’ve already made arrangements for their departure. I’m also making my way to the consignment shop to sell some of these decorations that I’m just – tired of. Of course, with the proceeds I’ll buy – more!

These are just surface symptoms. Embedded in my very soul are BIG plans to purge -

  • Art supplies
  • Games without all their pieces
  • Kitchen paraphernalia
  • My Inbox – {if I e-mail you back, you’ll know why!}
  • Old bedding
  • Papers – any and all
  • Beauty supplies

Don’t worry about me – this bug will pass. Meanwhile, Tim tells the kids to, ‘keep moving – or Mom will pack you up and send you to Goodwill‘. Smart man, he is.

I can’t help but wonder if I’m the only one who’s been infected? Are there other’s who’ve fallen prey to this dis-ease? I need the therapy of knowing I’m not alone. PLUS, I’d love some of YOUR IDEAS!!

Helpful tip: I have found that coffee perpetuates the symptoms. I’m upping my dose  - ‘coz I’m not sure I want to be healed right away – this could work for me.

Where was I exposed? You ask. Looking back – I may have been infected by my online ‘friends’:

Organized Junkie

Simple Mom

The Inspired Room

Cottage Chick

Some Girl’s Website

If you dare to visit them, proceed with caution. This bug is contagious!

I have TOTALLY been infected with this disease too! I recently re organized every space in our house. Cabinets, drawers, furniture, rooms, closets, attic…you name it. Man it feels GOOD! Garage sale proceeds are my motivation. Prayerfully we will have a good turn out tomorrow! Extra cash makes it worth it. :-) I’m dreaming of the organizational tools I am going to purchase right now. :-)

I’ve gotten the bug, but not as badly as you! I have to work around a shift working husband so my plans don’t always pan out. I did buy some great mats (indoor and outdoor) and a lamb’s wool duster from Don Aslett’s shop. I’ve noticed a huge difference already. Wanna come clean mine? Please?

If you find that the coffee stops working as well – add massive amounts of chocolate to keep that mojo moving! Keep those kiddos guessing – a mom in the purging mood is a good thing!

Stopping from the UBP ’11! I love that your blog was your birthday gift. We have the bug here. My three year old keeps trying to find his baby toys and they have gone to live at other baby’s houses.

Oh my goodness, I’m “infected” with the same bug. I think my bathrooms are cleaner than they’ve ever been; I took a carload of stuff to donate yesterday, and I’ve got a bunch more things I’ll probably yard sale in the next week or two; I’ve rearranged kitchen cabinets; and I’m just getting started!
