I didn’t read for pleasure as a child. My reading consisted of merely, school-work. That’s it! This handicap has worked in my favor as a mom, because I joy in helping our children enter the world of reading. From board-books to read-a-louds; textbooks to classics – I LOVE to watch our kids absorb them. They’re all avid readers and this discipline has enriched our lives.
I asked you to comment on your favorite children’s books for the give-a-way and we got a long list of beloved books. Thank you for taking the time to comment and give us new ideas for good books. I’m taking my list to the library ASAP! A few of these, we’ve never heard of. I’ve compiled all of your wonderful ideas – complete with links.
Thank-you to those who entered the giveaway. The winner is … Linda @ My Big Green House!! She blogs from NY and has sweet posts about family life that are always refreshing to read. (give her a visit) She wins Read for the Heart by Sarah Clarkson.
These are a few of your favorite books! I’m sharing them with We Are THAT Family ~ Works for me Wednesday & Some Girl’s Website ~ Thought Provoking Thursday.

Love the list and am surprised to say I’ve read most of those to my children over the years. Thanks for compiling it and sharing with us.
And how could I have forgotten I’ll Love You Forever, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and all the Beatrix Potter books? See what happens when you think on it for a while?
By the way, it’s Mr. Gumpy’s Outing.
Ooops, thanks for the correction.
YES – The Beatrix Potter books are my all time favorite!! They weren’t mentioned. This list could go on and on… I’ll have to continue this thought in another post.
I want to give young moms, just starting out, the opportunity to hear us say what we’ve loved and enjoyed.
I soooo appreciate your comments!
Thanks…you have some we haven’t discovered. I have really fallen short on reading out loud to my 15 year old, we did it so much with the first four and I read so much with the 5 year old. I told him last night we need to make time to read again out loud.
Freckle and the A Girl of the Limberlost – Gene Stratton-Porter – for older ones.
Patricia Polacco is my favorite recent day author…we meet her and she signed our books. Warning, some of her recent ones are “politically correct”.
Some many good books and so little time!
Sounds like a great list! I guess I didn’trealize that “How To Train Your Dragon” was based on a book. Have to check that out for my 6-yo, who adored the movie.
What a wonderful list of books. Thanks for stopping by Frugal & Focused from UBP’11! Your blog is beautiful and I’ve enjoyed reading through some of the post. I’ll be back soon.
I love children’s books! Same life lessons, just fewer pages and bigger font. ha.
So many wonderful books on your list… I am happy to say since we have been homeschooling we have had the TIME to read many of them. We recently fell in love with “The Trumpet of the Swan” and “The 21 Balloons” — so many books, so little time!
Great post.
