It’s ironic that each year at this time – when we’re trying to be warm-hearted and purposeful about the ‘season‘ – we end up getting a barrage of catalogs in the mail, often drowning out the Christmas cards. I found myself sitting down and LOOKING THROUGH THEM even though it’s a time waster and I had no plans of buying their stuff…
A few years ago I started fighting back and now it’s part of my Christmas ritual! When the catalogs start piling in, I set them aside – once the stack is significant in size I stop for about 10 minutes and call each one requesting to be REMOVED from the mailing list! Afterwards, I toss them in recycling and wait for the next batch. It makes for a simpler Christmas and a more clutter free New Year.
FYI – I’ve learned, the hard way, if I purchase with a debit card from a clothing store they often get my mailing info. You know, some stores own other stores that I wouldn’t shop at and don’t want their catalogs in our house … So I try to purchase with $cash$ if at all possible. This keeps the catalogs away and helps keep life simpler – especially right now!
